The Art of Oyster Bay -- Laurette Kovary | |
|
Laurette prefers paint and mixed media collage, and usually includes some sort of natural element in her paintings, such as water or clouds. Her collage work incorporates recycled items and her own drawings and artwork. Everyday life, light, color, patterns and humor serve as her inspiration. As Laurette enthusiastically states, "Art is everywhere!". She yearns to make a connection with her audience: "Satisfying my own creative curiosity is a thrill, but the real thrill comes when someone senses the underlying currents of emotion that lie beneath the surface of the individual works and can relate and recognize the experiences maybe not as, or only as, their own but something larger than themselves." "I wanted to give back to the community that has supported my artistic efforts thus far. I have painted a 1950's antique children's hobby horse to replicate Messenger. Along with the horse I will paint an antique poster commemorating the most important and fastest racing horse in America's first spectator sport - harness racing."
