Being a folk artist and a painter of nostalgia, I was delighted to paint an actual historic event.
-- Regan Tausch

Regan TauschRegan Tausch, a self taught artist, started developing her unique style in the early 1990s. In 1995, while in the Adirondacks, Regan's artwork caught the attention of a prestigious gallery and Regan began her art career there, at the Sagamore Hotel in Bolton Landing, N. Y.

Regan creates her whimsical scenes drawing inspiration from the beautiful places she has seen and her love for "old times." Regan's work is admired for the fantastic detail she paints into every scene she creates. An equestrian for years, Regan puts her knowledge of horses to work in her paintings.

"Being a folk artist and a painter of nostalgia, I was delighted to paint an actual historic event. Keziah's Kiss depicts the proudest day for the Youngs' Homestead. In 1790 George Washington took a tour of Long Island. On Friday, April 23rd, he stayed at Captain Daniel Youngs' home and in his diary Washington states it was very clean and decent. It certainly was! The homestead, located on the shore's edge in Oyster Bay Cove, was known for its apple orchard and majestic trees. At 6 am Saturday morning , President Washington said his farewells on the lawn before heading to Roslyn to Onderdonck's Grist Mill. He gave Daniel's daughter, Keziah a kiss on the cheek which it is said she held sacred for the rest of her life. Any girl past or present would be thrilled to have this experience. So this is what I painted for the Society's exhibition...a happy moment in time on the beautiful shore of Oyster Bay Cove."
