The Oyster Bay Historical Society: Preserving Our Past ... Protecting Our Future

Earle-Wightman House Museum

The Earle-Wightman House Museum -- which is also our headquarters -- is located at 20 Summit Street, Oyster Bay, NY 11771-2317. Our telephone number is (516) 922-5032. We are easy to reach by a variety of transportation methods.

If you are planning a daytrip including the Oyster Bay Historical Society, check our page of Related Websites and the Oyster Bay, Long Island website for other local places of interest to visit, then check "Are We There Yet?", a marvelous source of fieldtrip information. One obvious suggestion: include the Raynham Hall Museum which is "just around the corner" from our headquarters.

By public transportation.
  • Railroad.
The Historical Society is a short walk from the Oyster Bay station of the Long Island Railroad (LIRR), which is near the intersection of Hamilton Ave and Spring St (see map in "By Automobile" below). For additional information about travel by train, call the LIRR directly at their Suffolk (516) 231-5477, Nassau (516) 822-5477 or Queens (718) 217-5477 information numbers or visit the LIRR website. To plan a tour by train -- including the Oyster Bay Historical Society -- call (718) 990-7498.
  • Bus.
Travel by bus on Long Island is a good idea locally, but not so convenient for longer trips as the bus lines are not integrated into a single service.
    • MTA Long Island Bus (Nassau/Queens) (516) 766-6722
Connects with Kennedy and Laguardia airports and the LIRR.
    • Suffolk County Transit Bus (516) 852-5200
    • Huntington HART Bus Co. (516) 427-8822
  • Taxi.
The telephone number for the local taxi service is (516) 921-2141.

By automobile.

To reach the Earle-Wightman House by car, take the Northern State Parkway to Exit 35N (Route 106/107) or the Long Island Expressway to Exit 41N (also Route 106/107). Take the right fork, Route 106 -- the Jericho-Oyster Road, north toward Oyster Bay, for approximately six miles. In town, turn right at Summit Street -- there's a brown historical site marker at the corner. The Earle-Wightman House Museum is located at 20 Summit Street. Next door to us is the Fleet Bank which occupies the corner of Summit Street and Route 106 (called South Street in town). Ample free parking is available in the municipal lot adjacent to our headquarters.
